The Arts

Visual and performing arts are integrated into every aspect of life at Neighborhood School. While classroom teachers incorporate these disciplines into academic subjects, expert artist-teachers also lead excellent arts classes for all students. Students practice techniques in visual arts, instrumental music, dance, chorus, and drama. They share and perform and have authentic exchanges with audiences. Beyond the fundamental skills, students also explore thematic questions such as:

• How do actors use voice and body to communicate as an ensemble?

• How do visual artists integrate what they observe in the world and what they perceive in their inner lives?

• How does musical technology impact culture?

• How have different musical lineages influenced each other throughout history?
